Remi Cohen has been a winegrower and vineyard manager in the Napa Valley since 2001. Remi oversees Merryvale Vineyard's grape growing operations, emphasizing wine quality, sustainable farming practices and green certification on their estate vineyards.

Remi has worked closely with the Napa Green Farm Certification program and Fish Friendly Farming to develop environmentally friendly farming plans.  Sustainable practices include utilizing permanent cover crops for erosion control, utilizing compost to recycle nutrients, attracting beneficial insects through the use of insectaries, and adjusting canopy management practices to reduce disease pressure.

Remi has also made significant contributions to the quality of the wine grapes produced for Merryvale wines.  This includes overseeing redevelopment projects and capital improvements at the vineyards.  She works closely with winemaker Sean Foster, and the success shows in Merryvale's recent accolades.  Their current release wines have recently received numerous 90-plus point scores from prestigious publications such as the Wine Spectator.  Merryvale was named 'Winery of the Year' for 2009 by the Quarterly Review of Wine.

After working as a plant pathologist at a Bay Area biotech firm, she received her Master's Degree in Viticulture and Enology from U.C. Davis.  Remi has recently completed her M.B.A. at Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

Remi is known throughout the industry as an advocate of sustainable farming practices.  She has lectured on sustainability and viticulture at venues including U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Davis, the Commonwealth Club, and the Society of Viticulture and Enology. Remi is a past president of the Napa Valley Vineyard Technical Group, is on the board of the Carneros Wine Alliance, and is an active member of the Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group, and the American Society for Enology and Viticulture.

We visited Merryvale Winery in June. We were treated to a private tour and a history of the the winery. As well, we learned how the winery produces wine and which varietals are produced. The store is wonderful and full of many gift items. I have used the rubs many times since my purchase. Say hi to Greg. He gave us the royal treatment. He mentioned that there may be a possiblity that you would be interested in marketing efforts that could include Canada. We'd love to hear from him.
Cheers!
Debbie
