School is back in session and evenings are cool and crisp.  Are you looking for a weekend getaway this fall?  Well, look no further then Good Natured Fairfield.  

Conveniently located along Interstate 80 between San Francisco and Sacramento, Fairfield is the ideal destination to enjoy a fall escape.  Visitors can expect an array of lodging choices and packages, wineries to discover, delicious dining options, unique attractions, and plenty of special events and activities to satisfy any taste.

So, take a break from your daily routine and check out this list of ten popular things to do and see this fall in and around Fairfield.
1.    Experience the Wine Crush in the Suisun Valley.  The aroma of wine grapes being crushed fills the air in the Suisun Valley in fall.  Wineries harvesting grapes and offering wine tasting are Blue Victorian Winery, Ledgewood Creek Winery, Wooden Valley Winery, Tenbrink Vineyard, and Vezér Family Vineyard, while the Suisun Valley Wine Cooperative offers tasting for five family-owned wineries - Blacksmith Cellars, King Andrews Vineyards, Mangels Vineyards, Sunset Cellars, and Winterhawk Winery.  Neighboring Green Valley features GV Cellars and the Rock Creek Vineyards.

atvtour.jpg2.    Estate Ranch ATV Vineyard Tour.  Enjoy a guided two mile vineyard tour in a six-passenger ATV at Vezér Family Vineyard's Private Estate Ranch.  Take a walk through the winery courtyard and Italian gardens, and then be seated in the Vezér's private tasting room and sample six award-winning wines, including three 2007 unreleased wines. 3.    Heritage Feast & Solano Land Trust Art Show at Rush Ranch.  Celebrate the harvest in Solano County and help support the Solano Land Trust with a festive buffet style dinner and live art auction featuring work from local artists at Rush Ranch near Fairfield on Saturday, September 25.  Other highlights include live music, Access Adventure carriage rides, silent auction, raffle, and historic characters.  5 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Tickets are $70 (includes dinner and wine). pumpkinpatch.jpg4.    13th Annual Pumpkin Patch Festival at the Western Railway Museum.  The Western Railway Museum's Pumpkin Patch Festival will feature special "Pumpkin Patch Trains," running from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends from Saturday, October 9 through Sunday, October 24.  Enjoy a trip back in time aboard an electric express train for a scenic five-mile ride to Gum Grove Station.  Gum Grove Station features a good, old-fashioned pumpkin patch created by local Rotary Club members.  Highlights include a hay bale fort, hay rides, live music, games, inflatable bounce house for kids, homemade baked goods, stunning views of Mt. Diablo, and of course, pumpkins for sale, just in time for Halloween.  Admission is $12 for adults; $11 for seniors (65 and up); and $9 for children ages 2-14).  The Western Railway Museum is located on State Highway 12, 12 miles east of Fairfield.  (707) 374-2978.  

5.    Fun Family Farm Days Weekend in the Suisun Valley.  Bring the family out to Suisun Valley and take part in Fun Family Farm Days, Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17. There will be activities for the entire family to enjoy related to agriculture and farming. Vendors on the map will have family activities such as u-pick produce, tractor and wagon rides, farm tours, flower picking, wine tasting, arts and crafts, live music, and artists painting.

6.    Halloween Haunted House Tours at Jelly Belly.
  Visitors on the popular Jelly Belly Factory Tour will get a special Spooktacular Halloween-themed treat, October 18-31, as they detour through a decorated haven of Halloween delights, including a fun and kid-friendly Halloween House.  But don't be spooked.  Learn about the making of Jelly Belly jelly beans, candy corn, gummi tarantulas, and more on the 40-minute tour, with time to sample afterwards.  So, come on down to the Jelly Belly Visitor Center at One Jelly Belly Lane in Fairfield for a frightening good time. jellybelly.jpeg7.    Munchkin Masquerade Parade at Jelly Belly.  It's Halloween at Jelly Belly!  Costume parade for children ages 10 and under begins in the Jelly Belly Visitor Center at One Jelly Belly Lane in Fairfield on Sunday, October 31.  The parade starts promptly at 10:00 a.m. and marches through the Halloween Swamp in the candy factory tour.  Face painting, clown and Halloween treats.  Admission is FREE.  For more information call 1-800-953-5592 or visit
8.    Artoberfest at Ledgewood Creek Winery. 
The Fairfield Visual Arts Association (FVAA) is holding their 4th annual fall art festival, Artoberfest, at the Ledgewood Creek Winery in the Suisun Valley on Saturday, October 2.  Artoberfest features original visual art and sculpture by local and surrounding San Francisco Bay area artists.  In addition to the art, there will be food, wine tasting, live music, and a raffle.  Admission is FREE.  (707) 428-0400.

9.    Fall Colors in the Suisun Valley.
  With the change of seasons in the eight-mile-long Suisun Valley, it's a great time to enjoy Mother Nature's bounty and colorful show.  The colors of the grape leaves in the vineyards have turned dark red, purple, rust, and yellow.  A fall foliage journey into Suisun Valley features colorful images of autumn on the valley floor, wine tasting experiences in between natural discoveries, and fruit and vegetable stands loaded with a profusion of autumn's harvest fare.

bluevictorian.jpg10.    Barrel Room Tour at the Blue Victorian.  The Vezér's Blue Victorian Winery in the Suisun Valley is one of the originators and only one of a few wineries in California that specialize in Barrel Room tours that feature a hands-on blending experience.  The tour includes a pairing of cheeses and chocolates with some of Vezér's Port-style wines, right from the barrel. The 45-minute tour and tasting is offered 7 days a week by appointment Monday through Thursday, and walk-ins are welcome 12:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
