The nights are lightly chilled and the mornings are damp. The change is definitely upon us and the smell of autumn is in the air. In a land where sunshine and blue skies reign most of the year, autumn is one of California's most dramatic and colorful seasons.  Not just the landscape, but the wide array of fall crops make this a most special time to visit Fairfield's Suisun Valley.

Suisun Valley has a wonderful autumn season, coupled with all the fun and frolic of local pumpkin patches and Halloween merriment. For most visitors, October probably marks the start of the fall season.  And by October 1, Suisun Valley's season of harvest is in full swing. U-pick pumpkin patches, Indian corn, colorful fall gourds, crisp apples, and Fun Family Farm Days - harvest time is on sensory overload, visually and aromatically!

A wide variety of autumn ornamentals -- colorful gourds and Indian corn - are wonderful decorative touches during the holidays.Traditional apples including Rome Beauty, Pippin and Black Twig are autumnal favorites. "It's all about the flavors of fall," says Victoria Erickson.  "It really is the experience of coming to the Ranch to see and taste!"  Check-out some homemade jams and local honey. Free to the public, Erickson's is open Tuesday - Sunday, 9 am. - 6 p.m. until November 30th.

Down the road, Suisun Valley Pumpkin Patch is putting on a major show. Pumpkins, corn maze, hay pyramid, and even pumpkin bowling!  The 10-foot high corn maze is five acres and will definitely test your personal GPS. For the wee ones, the Kiddie Corn Maze allows for joyful exploration without the fear of getting lost. Already-picked or U-pick pumpkins include the smallest "Munchkin" to "Big Moose." Brilliant gourds, squash, and Indian corn are also available.  Open daily 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., September 25 - October 31, the Suisun Valley Pumpkin Patch is $3 per person; children 4 years and under are free.

The autumn revelry continues at Larry's Produce with more pumpkins, a hay maze and giant slide. U-pick or ready-picked, the selection of fresh fruits and vegetables is off the charts.  A Suisun Valley favorite, Larry's is open daily 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., June - December.

Fun Family Farm Days, October 16 - 17, is a virtual open-house throughout Suisun Valley. Wineries, farm stands, and restaurants showcase the bounty and spirit of the region. Olive oil tastings, hay rides, arts and crafts, barrel tastings, live music, and more! Suisun Valley is incredible year-round, but especially in autumn. It really is ALL about family, fun, and making new friends. You won't want to miss it!
