at the Lodge at Sonoma
A long-time Sonoma Valley resident, Patty Field has been Spa Director at Raindance Spa at The Lodge at Sonoma for more than five years. Within this role, Field manages all day-to-day operations within its eleven treatment rooms, spa boutique, spa garden and soaking pools and oversees a staff of nearly 50 people. She has developed a concentrated menu of services meant to bring the mind, body and soul into balance and offers some of the most unique and innovative treatments and products from the Valley, including a series of energy-inspired mind and body therapies, eco-certified spa treatments as well as an exclusive line of skincare, Raindance Skincare.
Whether visiting from out of town or a resident of the Valley, Raindance Spa is a highly sought after retreat tucked away at The Lodge at Sonoma and is one of the most inspiring spa destinations in California Wine Country today.
Prior to working in the spa industry, I had worked in various positions within the health club industry for 18 years. My degree is in Physical Education from UC Davis, so my interest in sports & health has been throughout my life. I worked in various positions in the health club world doing everything from personal trainer, athletic director, sales and marketing director to general manager. As General Manager, I was able to put a very small spa in to our health club and also started a massage school at the health club. I was very involved in the process and really became quite passionate about the spa industry. This led me to seek a new career in the spa field.
What's new at Raindance Spa? What are some of your client's top treatments?
We are always looking at the trends and recently added an organic facial to our menu - the Eco Escape facial by Equavie, which is a division of Phytomer. We chose to bring this facial in because of Phytomer's outstanding reputation in the skincare industry and the fact that it was a certified organic line of skincare - no one else in the county is carrying this right now! Clients are very knowledgeable about products and the 'green', organic trend is, of course, a hot topic right now.
The top treatments are still the massage and facial but this time of year we see more of our guests adding on scrubs and wrap treatments as well - mainly to keep their skin healthy and fresh all summer. Our most popular scrub is our Grape Seed Body Polish treatment, using crushed grape seeds that are actually from Sonoma Valley. It is very organic, fragrant, authentic to our region, and effective for removing dead skin cells, rejuvenating the skin with antioxidants, and hydrating the skin overall.
Your favorite place?
The Caribbean. In my younger years I spent almost three years living on different islands in the Caribbean and working for Club Med as a tennis pro. I would spend 6 months in each area and really experienced the island culture, people, and beautiful surroundings. I have wonderful memories and often dream about moving back when my daughter is grown.
What is your favorite way to spend your time?
Spending time with my daughter, who is 10, brings me great joy. We enjoy being outdoors and most often doing some type of sport together.
What would be your ultimate spa indulgence?
Going to a destination spa for a week. Spending serious time relaxing, receiving spa treatments daily, eating healthy, being active outdoors, and sleeping in would be heaven for me!
If you were not a spa director, what would you be and why?
Regional Trainer for a spa organization. I really enjoy mentoring others and love traveling.
Something others would be surprised to know about you?
Club Med offered entertainment at night and I was a performer in some of the shows.
If you could spend the day at Raindance Spa with one celebrity, who would it be and why?
Oprah. The woman is an extraordinary woman in so many ways. She is truly a person who has risen above her challenges, taken hold of all opportunities brought before her, worked hard for her achievements, and has changed the lives of so many individuals in so many ways. I would think it would be fascinating to spend time with her!
Hydration or exfoliation?
Hydration! There is nothing like the feel of your face after an amazing facial, or the touch of your skin after a soothing massage with essential oils. Hydration is important any time of the year and one that most of us are in need of more than exfoliation.
Name an exotic place in the world you would love to travel to.
Bali. I have heard so many amazing stories about Bali and the many places to experience spa treatments.
What is your mantra?
Live life to the fullest in all that you do.
